Melvin Jackson of Raleigh, North Carolina is a Black man in America. He is a public health professional, researcher, educator, and racial equity activist. His experiences living in segregated communities, attending segregated schools, and how he was engaged by others, shapes his worldview.
Melvin is committed to challenging systemic racism and advancing racial equity. Melvin understands that addressing social determinants of health without addressing racism - the root cause of many health disparities - is fruitless. Seeing younger generations across races and ethnicities fight for racial justice and raise consciousness around racial equity gives Melvin hope. Small steps can and are being made toward dismantling racism, with each generation moving the work forward. Coaching youth baseball brings Melvin joy. Baseball offers a valuable opportunity to engage with young people and work together to overcome challenges. Melvin also enjoys being outside and working in his yard. |
