Nathaniel Siggers of Williamson, West Virginia is a helper and an advocate for others. A recovery coach by day, Nate also coaches middle school basketball and football. Through sports, he is able to teach life lessons that extend beyond the game. Working with youth and adults, Nate is passionate about setting up people for success and helping them prepare for the next phases in life.
Nate has experienced blatant racism throughout his life. In elementary school, he recalls participating in a class exercise that involved talking about what he wanted to be when he grew up. Many classmates spoke about wanting to be doctors or lawyers, and when Nate said something similar, his teacher laughed and told him to be realistic. Experiences like this drive Nate to advance racial equity and work toward dismantling racism so no one is told they are not good enough. White people fighting alongside people of color to advance racial equity gives Nate hope. Coaching and being a father bring Nate joy. |
